NEVERDIE Studios Unveils Unique In-Game Event for Hunt The Thing, the Massively Multiplayer Game

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 28, 2011 — NEVERDIE Studios, creators of the ROCKtropia Virtual World, a sophisticated, next-gen, cash prize-based game world with mythology drawn from pop culture, today announced it has launched a unique, in-game event for players of its recently released massively multiplayer online game (MMOG), Hunt The Thing. This new movie-length MMOG event is inspired by Universal Pictures’ current thriller The Thing, now in theatres nationwide. The game was developed through a licensing agreement with Universal Partnerships & Licensing.
Starting on October 31 players will be challenged with locating and assisting the infamous avatar NEVERDIE, who has joined the fight to rid the world of The Thing. NEVERDIE went missing when his helicopter transporting a supply of flamethrowers and armor crashed into the ROCKtropia Antarctic. The exact location of the downed chopper is unknown, but fragmented distress signals are being received via Facebook.com/thethingmovie and Twitter @MYrocktropia and provide clues to his location and the whereabouts of his scattered precious cargo.
The flamethrowers and armor are vital to the containment of The Thing in the Antarctic. As such, Universal is offering one-of-a-kind props used during the making of the thriller The Thing as rewards to the first brave adventurers to find NEVERDIE and help get his shipment of gear back to the base camp. The movie props include a parka worn by one of the cast members and a pair of bloodied slacks used in the shoot. Additional prizes to be won during the course of the event include Collector’s Edition DVDs of John Carpenter’s original 1982 film as well as in-game rewards, such as Flamethrowers and Armor

Volunteers are needed immediately to help with this critical search and rescue mission. New players can sign up at www.HuntTheThing.com to create their free avatar and begin their adventure. It is highly recommended that new recruits train for the mission by attempting to hunt down The Thing in order to earn access to a helicopter, which will allow them to support in both ground and aerial search efforts.

After downloading the free-to-play MMOG Hunt The Thing, fans will be immediately thrust into a virtual Antarctic world where they are tasked with uncovering the mystery and ultimately hunting down The Thing. Whether they choose to play as a scientist or soldier, each of whom possess unique skill sets and upgrade paths, players will need to explore abandoned bases, decipher clues, take blood samples, secure gear, gather weapons, fight friends and enemies alike, and survive the many dangers presented by the world’s most inhospitable and uninhabitable continent.

Hunt The Thing will offer players numerous opportunities to win exclusive and highly collectible in-game virtual prizes. These include a collector’s edition flamethrower; a variety of automatic weapons and Antarctic survival gear; and, for those who are skilled enough to defeat The Thing, a combat helicopter that allows players to continue their adventure while the film is still in theaters. Players who complete the final Hunt The Thing mission may enter expert mode for an opportunity to win even more valuable prizes.
Powered by the award-winning CryEngine 2, Hunt The Thing will present players with an incredibly harsh environment alongside a mesmerizing storyline that weaves together elements from John Carpenter’s 1982 feature film, the recently released companion piece and the previously released The Thing game.
